This past Friday evening we headed to Awaji Island to use our overnight stay at Hotel Anaga and to visit the sites on the island. We were only able to visit 4 out of the many offered and are already looking forward to returning to the island again someday. To get to the island, we had to go over the Akashi Bridge which is the world's largest single suspension bridge....I think it is also the single most expensive bridge to cross, as well! This was a neat picture we got as we were crossing.

Upon arriving at the hotel, we were driven to our room which was actually a villa on the ocean. We had a beautiful view although a little cloudy but we had a great view of another bridge called the Naruto bridge. This picture to the right is the view from our villa. Tanner loved watching the fishing boats that morning and asking if Poppa (my Dad) was out there fishing. We all wished so! After eating breakfast at a very classy French restaurant and almost having coronaries from Tanner using nice glasses and china, we headed off to the whirlpools. They have whirlpools that you can actually take a boat through under the Naruto Bridge. Isaac and I were game

but Bryce and Brynn chickened out so we decided just to watch the whirlpools for a while. After that, we headed to Awajishima Ranch. We thought it would be neat to see cows (we haven't seen a single one since being in Japan) and had the opportunity to taste milk, see calves, and Brynn, Tanner and I even milked a cow....something we had never done before! Of course, we paid $15 to do that but who's counting! After buying some treats and yummies, we headed to our next destination which was Okonoro. It was an amusement park

that had a "World Theme" to it. Again, we paid admission and then each ride we went on was $3 per person. It began to get a little ridiculous and we became very grateful for our vacations to King's Island in the States but fun was still had by all. After our fun at Okonoro, we headed to the Earthquake Memorial Museum. That was a very sobering place and made me very grateful to know of the church's program for Food Storage. I started to get very nervous seeing what people were going through after the earthquake in 1995. Then, I was

very comforted in knowing that at least we would be ok with water and some food on hand. We don't have much do to our circumstances but I feel at peace with what we do have. They preserved several meters of the faultline so we could see what happened and what it looked like. We were thankful that there was no earthquake during the time we were visiting the fault line, too! They also had an earthquake simulation where Bryce and the kids were able to sit in a room and it began shaking like a 7.3 magnitude earthquake. Wow! The kids thought it was fun...I don't know that I agree. Finally, we headed home to Shioya. Tanner was asleep before we could even leave the parking lot. A fun time was had by all and we so much enjoyed our trip to the beautiful island of Awaji!
