Mukade

(moo-ka-day) is how it is pronounced. Yep, they are nasty little creatures. They look like centipedes but they bite or sting, we still aren’t sure completely what they are capable of but they are here! We have been told a wide range of what can and can’t happen with Mukade. We know that they are painful but we aren’t sure whether it is just painful or if it is poisonous because we have also been told that if Tanner gets stung/bitten he could die. We also know that they can get up to 6 inches long and you can find them in your house especially in wooded areas. We have found 2 in the house. Luckily they were little ones. They are also hard to kill. The most effective way is to pour boiling water on them. Unfortunately, by the time you get the water boiling and go back to find it, it is usually gone. We now have a pair of “Mukade killer” tongs. We then pick up the sucker and drop it in the sink where we can then watch it while the water is boiling. Obviously, more study is needed! Needless to say, we are always wearing socks (Japanese find it offensive to wear shoes in the house) and we never leave clothes or toys on the floor…this may be a good thing! I do have to poke fun…most of you know of the deathly fear Bryce has of sharks. I think Mukade come in at a close second. He was not going to let me put bedskirts on the bed for fear that they might somehow climb up and suck out our brains. I was allowed to put the bedskirts on but I had to tuck them up so they are 3-4 inches off the ground.
